Socketed Items in Diablo 2 cover the different Items that can be inserted inside Socketed Equipment. Inserting a Socketed Item into a Socketed Equipment will imbue the equipment piece with the Sockted Item properties. Runes are a special type of Socketed Item that can be inserted using different combinations to create powerful Runewords.
This page covers a full list of all the Socketed Items that can be found in the game.
All Socketed Items in Diablo 2
Runes in Diablo 2 are small stones inscribed with magical glyphs that can be inserted into Socketed Items. Runes have the particularity of not only being able to grant magical properties per se once placed into an Item, but also you can create certain combinations called Runewords, when inserted in the proper order, to grant the socketed item even more powerful abilities.
Runes may vary depending on if you socket a Weapon or an Armor piece. Runes can be used to create Crafted Items and appear in Orange text.
Best Runes to boost your equipment stats and add special abilities. They are first and foremost used in Runewords, but can also be powerful on its own.

Runewords
If the player puts a certain combination of Runes in the correct order into an item that has exactly that number of sockets, the item's name will change into a Unique name, displayed in gold, receiving extra powers depending on the Rune Word used. Does Magic Find affect High Runes Drops?
No, Magic Find does not affect High Runes drop in any way. Difficulty settings affect Rune Drops. The higher the difficulty setting selected, the rune drop level will be higher.
Where to Farm Runes
There are some specific areas or strategies in Diablo 2 that are excellent for farming Runes.
- The Countess: She is an excellent Enemy to target-farm in order to obtain low-to-mid Runes. Her rune drop caps at Ist Runes on Hell Difficulty.
- The Secret Cow Level: Great for single-player farming. Just focus on NOT killing the Cow King, only kill the Hell Bovine.
- Travincal: Great Location to obtain up to Cham Runes.
- Lower Kurast Super Chest: There are a total of six Super Chest in Lower Kurast that can net you up to a Ber Rune. One of the most effective methods for farming up to Ber runes in single-player.

Jewels in Diablo 2 are similar to Gems, except that instead of having predetermined magical abilities like a Gem, each Jewel possesses random magic properties, allowing you to bestow a wide variety of magical abilities to your Socketed Item. Some uncommon Jewels can have two or more magical properties. Before inserting a Jewel, its magical properties must be “identified” either by the use of a Scroll of Identify, or by a wise sage who can provide such a service.
